Game Play & Core Mechanics
Game Play
When the players enter the VR experience, they will find themselves in a room known as the backstage, which is filled with four costumes that the players can choose from. Once they’ve chosen their outfits, they will unlock a door to the live stage, where they will be able to dance and interact with the environment through different shapes. They can also activate a glow stick and create glowing particles by dancing with each other. A screen will also appear to show different dance poses and the player that can match the most poses will win. At the end of the experience, the players will get an ending scene with them in their outfits as well as the scoreboard.
Movement
The main mechanic of the VR stage experience is movement. The player will move around with the control stick but they will be encouraged to dance, pose, and explore their surroundings.
- Dance
- Dancing is the main type of movement which will be detected through the controllers and through collisions between players and objects. Players will be encouraged to dance along with the NPCs in the area. If the players dance near each other, glowing particles will be released between them in celebration. This will be detected through player collision.
- Poses
- While the players explore and dance, a screen will appear at random intervals with a distinct dance pose and a ten-second timer. If the players can match the pose when the timer ends, they will be rewarded with a point. This will encourage competition between the players, as the player that earns the most points wins. The poses will be detected through hidden collision boxes, and if the player’s controllers are within those boxes before the timer is up, they will earn a point.
Interacting with the Environment
There are several different ways of interacting with objects in this experience. In the backstage players can select their Bauhaus costume by pointing and pressing the rear triggers on their controllers on their desired costumes. In the live stage, you can adjust the stage settings by interacting with different objects– cubes will change the stage light, spheres will change the stage colour, and triangles will change the music. The players can also create glow sticks by holding down the grip triggers on their controllers.
