October Updates

Week 5 to 6 (Oct 1 to 18)

  • Bauhaus Workshop with Karen
    • Further growth and understanding of the Bauhaus theatre movement
    • Learned about scenography and blocking. Deep dive into performance art.
    • Understanding the difference between presence vs immersion in VR
    • Participated in In-class exercises. This helped to understand stimulated play-playfulness, sculptures, and embodiment.

  • VR Workshop with Karen
    • Gained a better understanding of the VR experience
    • Understood the connection between scenographic elements and combining them with VR designs. This helped to brainstorm the user interactions and mechanics of the VR game.
    • Learned about ShapesXR - the mechanics and how to use it as a prototyping tool

  • Reading Week
    • Further project development to determine logistic & technical limitation
    • Begin researching ways to emulate the game’s tone
    • Using ShapesXR, further experimented with the conceptualization of level designs
    • With a minimal investment of labour, ShapesXR provided ease of understanding the environment setup

Week 7 to 8 (Oct 19 to 31)

  • Prototype VR Stage
    • Brainstormed user interactions, mechanics, dynamics, aesthetics, multiplayer elements, behaviours, and components. Once finalized, this was documented into a gamification model canvas
    • Created a walkthrough of the VR game using ShapesXR. Understood how the project would look, and feel by experiencing in multi viewpoints.
    • To further organize the experience, VR storyboards were created to demonstrate the key user flow, checkpoints, behaviours, and decisions.
    • With further clarity, a production pipeline diagram was created to visualize the simultaneous working elements to create the VR game.
    • The above was documented in a slideshow and presented. With the feedback received, the project become further polished to avoid any misunderstandings, mechanical issues, multiplayer interactions, and improve the user experience.

  • Performance Capture Session (2 sessions)
    • Ability to learn and use the newly acquired inertia-based motion capture suits
    • Helped to emulate the Bauhaus tone and aesthetic the group aimed for
    • Planned to use the performance capture in the NPC
